Best and Fastest Way to Farm Valor Points – Cataclysm Patch 4.3

Valor points allow you to get some of the best gear in that game that you can do by yourself, currently bringing in item level 397 gear by spending your valor points at the valor merchant.

Obviously, then, everyone is searching for the fastest way to get valor points.  Right now Valor Points are capped at 1000 per week and there are many ways you can obtain them.

The fastest way will vary depending on your class you will want to try different methods.

The most common way to obtain Valor Points is to run 7 Random Cataclysm Heroics in a week period, that’s only one a day and you’ll have them maxed out.  The problem with running Random Cataclysm Heroics, especially as DPS, is that when you do get into a group they are usually a newb group, so I have found that running Random Cataclysm Heroics is only as good as your tank, when I farm Valor points on my tanks I run random Cataclysm Heroics.

But the best option I’ve found where all of the higher geared and better skilled players are grouping is the new Random Hour of Twilight Heroics.  Inside of these instances you’ll also get item level 378 gear dropping from enemies.  These require item level 353 or above average.  Some of you might say, “but I don’t have 353 average” or even worse yet, “i don’t even have 333 item level average to get into the Random Cataclysm Heroics”.  Don’t worry, I’ve come up with a work around for this.

The work around will only require a little bit of gold, I don’t know what a little bit is to you, but a little bit to me is just a few thousand 2-3k should work depending on your server, you might want more otherwise.  Basically all you do though is go to your auction house and buy the item level 377 pvp gear for all of the slots you can afford.

These exist for every class and you can get them for waist, feet, wrist, chest, head, hands, legs, shoulder.  That’s 4 spots you can fill with item level 377 stuff.  They are PvP gear but they allow you to bypass the filter for the heroic item level requirements.  There are also an array of bind on equip item level 378, 397, 359, and 346 items on the auction house (I’m sure I missed some item levels, but you get the point).  With enough money you can hit level 85, go to the auction house, and be able to use the Looking for Raid filter to join a Deathwing Raid immediately.

Speaking of the looking for raid feature, if you are item level 372+ I highly recommend you use it to get 500 of your 1000 points for the week by completing the two available raids, especially if you are dps.  Do the math, there are 17 spots open for DPS, 2 for a tank, and 6 for healers.  Plus, you get a roll on really good gear (item level 384).

The PvP gear you buy won’t normally effect a good players dps enough for them to be at the bottom of the dps charts, with my Rogue in full PvP gear, I’m joining random Twilight heroics and pushing up to 20k dps on some boss fights, so if you’re good enough you won’t get kicked out of group.

Just don’t forget that you are going to actually need to know the rotations and specs for your character regardless of what you do.
